Wildflowers in the Hill Country
Today John, the kids, Nonni, Uncle Mark, and myself went for a drive into the country to see all the spring wildflowers that are blooming right now. Everywhere we looked were breathtaking blankets of blue, red, white and yellow. The most popular flower is the bluebonnet, which happens to be the state flower. Nestled amongst the bluebonnets were also Indian paintbrush, buttercups, and prairie verbena to name a few. Our first stop was in Llano where we had a delicious lunch of amazing cheeseburgers at the Stonewall's Pizza, Wings and Things. After a walk around the town we dipped our feet in the Llano river. On our way home we found a gorgeous field and took advantage of the many photo opportunities. A typical outing of ours is never complete without a stop at Dairy Queen, so we ended the day with some sundaes and root beer floats. At DQ Jack spotted a jolly old looking biker behind us with a white beard and a cigarette (which you can see behind Jack in the last picture), and insisted it was Santa Claus...and yes they heard his comments and had a good laugh! It was a good day :)
